Soil samples may come with various characteristics. Depending on it's ability to hold water, texture and colour, you may clasify them as Clay, Sandy, Humus etc.

What is a soil sample?

A soil sample is a small quantity of soil or earth which is collected for evaluation.

Soil samples differ based on the location from which it was collected.

it may be:

  • Grainly and lacks the ability to hold water. In this case is is sandy.
  • Dark coloured and holds together when squeezed between the hands. In this case, it is humus.
  • It may be white or redish or pinkish or a mixture of two or more of the color mentioned. If it does and it can be shaped into forms, then it is clay soil.

Note that this excercise is meant to be practical. Use the methods above to check the qualities of the soil sample you collect.
