The structure of cortisol has 6 chiral centers. When the carbon atom is a chiral center, it can also be called as an asymmetric carbon atom.

What is chiral centres?

Chiral atom or a chiral center is defined as a tetrahedral atom in a molecule which has four different bonded groups , with lone pairs. A chiral center has always a non superimposable mirror image.

It should be noted that the term chiral center is often similarly used along with or stereocenter. But since stereocenters are the atoms which are bonded to three or more different ligands, all chiral centers are considered stereocenters but not all stereocenters are considered to be chiral centers.
