An adaptation is the recreation of a piece of art, literature, or film by using the same concepts but changing certain aspects such as the setting or the characters The process of recreating and presenting an existing work in a way which draws a new meaning. In short, I think an adaptation is any work that is based on or sourced from another work and has repurposed that said work in some form. You should be able to tell the source but it should be a remix or a new rendition of it. I think the three criterion of being an adaptation that Hutcheon mentioned were interesting points. I agree that it should be clear that an adaptation is an adaptation but I am not satisfied with the “punishment” of not calling an adaptation an adaptation because it doesn’t explicitly admit that it is one. I also agree that mere allusions shouldn’t be given the title adaptation.
