Triangle PQR is given to be a right triangle, so the Pythagorean theorem can be used to determine that RQ² + PR² = PQ². It is given that  x² + y² = z² in triangle ABC, so z² = PQ² or AB = PQ.

The above information shows that the triangles are congruent because their three (3) sides are congruent. Therefore, to show that triangle PQR is a right triangle, we can use corresponding parts of the congruent triangles to show that PQ = AB, PR = AC and QR = BC.
