Respuesta :
The cars move at an angle of tan-¹(6/5) NE after the collision .
What is Momentum?
Momentum is the property of a moving body that the body has by virtue of its mass and motion and that is equal to the product of the body's mass and velocity.
Given,
[tex]M_{1}[/tex]= 1000 kg , [tex]M_{2}[/tex] = 1200Kg
[tex]V_{1}[/tex]= 25 m/s , [tex]V_{2}[/tex] = 30 m/s
a. What is the total momentum of the system before the collision?
The total momentum of the system before collision :
[tex]P(_{xy} ) = P_{x} + P_{y}[/tex]
[tex]P_{x} = 1000*25= 25000 kgm/s \\\\P_{y} = 1200*30 = 3600 kgm/s\\[/tex]
25000kgm/s + (-3600 kgm/s) = 21,400 kgm/s
b. What is the total momentum of the system after the collision?
[tex]P(_{xy} ) = P_{x} + P_{y}[/tex]
25000kgm/s + 3600 kgm/s =28,600 kgm/s
d. at what angle do the cars move after the collision?
From Triangle law of vector addition ,
the resultant of both vectors will be given by third side of the triangle taken in opposite direction.
So , if the resultant velocity makes an angle . Then ,
tan θ =[tex]\frac{v_{2} }{v_{1} }[/tex]
Substituting the respective values,
tanθ = [tex]\frac{30}{25}[/tex]
Simplify ,
tan θ = [tex]\frac{6}{5}[/tex]
θ = [tex]tan^{-1} (\frac{6}{5} )[/tex]
Hence the cars move at an angle of tan-¹(6/5) NE after the collision .
