The Death of Juan Ponce de Leon
Who were the Conquistadors?
Conquistadores were mercenary warriors funded by the Spanish crown who invaded and occupied Mexico, Central America, and South America in the sixteenth century. Remember that conquistadors were not conventional troops, nor were they entirely Spanish or Portuguese. Some were from Italy, Germany, and even Greece! A analogous historical entity would be the condottieri in the Italian republics. These were private expeditions, and many of the conquistadors were from destitute noble families. Many of them had no official military experience (though some had previously served) and had to provide their own equipment.
There were other notable explorers/conquistadors, but two Extremadurans, Hernán Cortés and his cousin Francisco Pizarro, were the most well-known.
How did the Spanish conquistadors treat the Native Americans?
The conquistadors were essentially mercenary pillagers on contract, similar to the English privateers who were backed by the Crown to prey on Spanish ships and villages. The padres that accompanied the commanders were a mixed bag, with some assisting the commanders and others attempting to protect and convert the locals.
Note that anti-Spanish Anglophiles founded the United States, wrote the histories (in English, of course, for the good guys), established public schools to marginalize Catholics (whose educational systems were far superior in their day), and perpetuated the official formal institutional anti-Catholic bigotry of the United Kingdom. It's difficult to find somebody who isn't a true historian who will acknowledge the wonderful work of the Spanish clergy.
Reading any academic historical expert would reveal that a remarkable number of Spanish governors were prosecuted and convicted of atrocities against the Amerindians as a result of reasonably consistent (but not universal) ecclesiastical opposition to the military mercenary conquerors' depredations. The Spanish Crown lavished vast sums on the education and (alleged) welfare of the locals. To summarize, it is not as black and white as revisionists would like: there were clearly abuses, but the authorities in Spain were far more sensitive to Amerindian rights than Anglophiles would accept. Priests in the New World were fierce protectors of native welfare, taking harsh rebukes and providing crucial testimony that led to the real incarceration of brutal governors.
The Spanish were significantly superior than the British or French in this regard. I don't recall reading about any of their colonial rulers being dismissed or penalized for mistreating indigenous.
The End of the Conquistadores:
Juan Ponce de Leon explored and charted the Florida coast in 1516.
In 1521, he attempted to duplicate what his companions had done by establishing a successful Spanish town there; however, the Indians murdered him which eventually scared and fortunately for the Native Americans - drove the Spaniards out.

The death of Juan Ponce de Leon caused the end of the Conquistadores.
Who were Conquistadores?
Conquistadores were hired soldier champions supported by the Spanish crown who attacked and involved Mexico, Central America, and South America in the sixteenth hundred years.
Recollect that conquerors were not regular soldiers, nor were they altogether Spanish or Portuguese. Some were from Italy, Germany, and even Greece! A similar to verifiable element would be the condottieri in the Italian republics. These were private undertakings, and a considerable lot of the conquerors were from down and out honorable families.
A large number of them had no authority military experience (however some had recently served) and needed to give their own gear. The conquerors were basically hired fighter looters on agreement, like the English privateers who were supported by the Crown to go after Spanish boats and towns. The padres that went with the leaders were a hodgepodge, with some helping the commandants and others endeavoring to secure and change over local people.
Therefore basically and gradually the death of Juan Ponce de Leon lead to the end of the Conquistadores
