Visions are often used by Native Americans to establish contact with the spirit world and gain special favors.

When we discuss voices and visions, we merely refer to the situation in which a person is aware of something that those around them are not. All five senses, including hearing, sight, smell, taste, and touch, may be included in these experiences.

The word "vision" is more frequently used in the Bible to describe a contact with God during which he gives particular revelation, frequently instinctively, in dreams, or "in dark sayings." Theophanies, in which God speaks to the visionary personally, can occasionally occur during visions.
