The commerce clause would best justify limiting the powers of the national government.

With checks and balances, each of the three branches of government can restrict the powers of the others. This way, no  branch is too strong. Each branch "checks" the authority of the other branches to make sure that the power is balanced between them. An example of limited government can be seen through laws that impede the unchecked powers of government agencies

. For example, the Fourth Amendment of the United States Constitution protects  citizens against unreasonable searches and seizures. An example of  limited government is our US government. In other words, the  government of the United States has no other powers than that  granted  by the Constitution of the United States.
