Who was Henry IV?

Henry IV was the first king to rule France from the House of Bourbon and he was king from 1589 to 1610 after he succeeded his brother Henry III who had no children when he died. Henry IV was a French Huguenot which meant that he was protestant.

This put him at odds with many government officials who were Catholics and hated the Protestants. The opposition to his reign was so much that a four year war of succession broke out and only ended after Henry IV converted to Catholicism.
