Two devastating wars, in Iraq and Afghanistan, have inflicted lasting damage on the local population. The war in Afghanistan has cost the lives of more than 47,000 civilians. Today, as the Afghan refugee crisis continues, the U.S. government refuses to fulfill its responsibilities.
Not only has the United States unprovoked its intervention in major parts of the world, but its reckless withdrawal has put the invaded countries back at risk. In 2011, the US irresponsibly withdrew its troops from Iraq, which enabled the Islamic State and other extremist groups to gain momentum and carry out frequent violent terrorist attacks. This has become the biggest challenge to the security of Iraq and the region.
The US government often arbitrarily imposes unilateral sanctions and infringes upon the fundamental rights of other countries. In its quest for absolute dominance in and around the Middle East, the US has imposed punishing sanctions on regimes that pursue independent foreign policies, from Iran to Syria.
