After high sugar meal, the liver forms glycogen from excess glucose in blood.
After eating high glucose meal glucose enters the liver and levels of blood glucose rise. This excess glucose is dealt with by glycogenesis in which the liver converts glucose into glycogen for storage. The glucose that is not stored is used to produce energy by a process called glycolysis.
In stomach and small intestines absorb the glucose and then release it into the bloodstream. Once in the bloodstream, glucose can be used immediately for energy or stored in our bodies, to be used later. When the blood glucose is high pancreas releases insulin into the bloodstream. This insulin stimulates the liver to convert the blood glucose into glycogen for storage.
