The facial nerve is the 7th cranial nerve and includes nerve fibers that manage facial movement and expression. The facial nerve also contains nerves that can be concerned in flavor to the anterior 2/three of the tongue and produce tears (lacrimal gland).

The facial nerve affords motor innervation of facial muscle tissues that are accountable for facial expression, parasympathetic innervation of the glands of the oral hollow space and the lacrimal gland, and sensory innervation of the anterior two-thirds of the tongue.

Ask the affected character to look up or wrinkle the brow; look for asymmetry. Ask him or her to shut their eyes tightly. look for incomplete closure or incomplete "burying" of the eyelashes on the affected aspect. take a look at the nasolabial folds and mouth at the same time as the affected person is concentrating on the eyes.
