Securely attached is the term used to describe children who readily separate from their caregivers and seem to enjoy exploring their surroundings

Infants are born with a variety of intrinsic behaviors that will help them survive as long as possible. When an infant is in need or experiencing discomfort, secure attachment behavior enables them to attract others toward them. Children that have a "safe" attachment are typically able to use their caregivers as a "secure base" from which to explore their surroundings when they are not upset, as well as to be soothed by them when they are in distress.

Children learn through secure attachment methods from their surroundings, which has significant effects on how they learn to act in close interpersonal connections. Beginning at infancy, an infant's interactions with its primary caregivers lay the foundation for personality development and shape later close relationships, expectations of social acceptance, and attitudes toward rejection.
