The war on poverty has been designed to removing the lawlessness  and poverty by providing equal opportunities, that were lacking, and improving the living standards of the low-income groups.

The war on poverty, can be called as a nick name to the 40 programs, issued up by a legislation of United states, the Economic opportunity Act in 1964.

This legislation was came in response to the National Poverty Rate, which had reached 19%, by the President Lyndon. B. Johnson. The most prominent initiatives in these programs were, as follows;

  • The first one was, The Economic Opportunity Act of 1964, this had led to the formation of  Community Action Program, like, Job Corps and Volunteers in Service to America (VISTA),
  • Food Stamp Act of 1964,
  • Social Security Act 1965,
  • Elementary and Secondary Education Act,

These were the significant programs under this act, and the responsibility of execution was given to Office of Economic Opportunity, for the execution and success of this legislation.
