If a patient is going to have bowel surgery in the morning and the physician orders 500 ml of GoLYTELY PO to be administered at 5 pm this evening, the nurse will administer ½ liter. GoLYTELY is a laxative solution that stimulates bowel movements.
This medicine also contains minerals to replace electrolytes passed from the body in the stool. GoLYTELY is used to cleanse the colon before a colonoscopy, barium x-ray, or other bowel procedures. GoLYTELY may also be used for purposes not listed in this medication guide. Do not use GoLYTELY if you have a perforated bowel, bowel obstruction or severe constipation, or colitis or toxic megacolon. GoLYTELY can cause dangerous or life-threatening side effects in people with these conditions.
