Skin's epidermis is a stratified squamous epithelium that constantly regenerates. It is mostly made up of keratinocytes, but it also includes Langerhans cells, melanocytes, and Merkel cells. The keratinocytes are supported by the dermis, which also houses the nerve and vascular networks that provide the epidermis with nutrients.
The epidermis, which is the organism's outermost layer, is frequently vulnerable to various types of harm. When damaged skin is not properly re-epithelialized, the organ loses its ability to act as a barrier, becomes dehydrated, gets infected, or even dies.
