Around line 1094a10, he speaks of some pursuits being subordinate. He means that these pursuits are carried out with some end in mind, to which they are subordinate.

Aristotle in his famous work, the Nicomachean Ethics, discusses the ideas of means and ends in relation to the different pursuits of life. He argues that each pursuit has an end or purpose. The end may be to obtain a particular skill, such as learning how to ride a horse, or something beyond the activity, such as wealth.

Aristotle points out that there are a multiplicity of ends. But often, one end has another higher end in mind. For example, the goal of horse riding may be to attain military skill, and the end of military skill is often victory in battle.  Thus, there is a supreme end, or master science, and Aristotle calls this the art of Politics.
