An ability that the government would have limited is:

  • Intelligence and they would try to accomplish this by handicapping the individual with radios that played loud sounds intermittently.

What was society like in the story?

The society in "Harrison Bergeron" was marked by total equality and a dystopian setting. The government did not want anybody to be greater than their peers.

So, if a person was endowed with intelligence, they would try to disrupt this ability by installing handicaps. The handicaps in this case were radios that played at some points in a loud manner.
