There are basically many types of chemical reaction. There are mainly three important organic reaction type that are addition, eliminations and substitutions reaction. They can be defined as follows.
Addition reaction :
It is one of the type of reaction in which two or more molecules combine together to form a new larger molecules. It mainly occur in case when the reactant molecule is unsaturated which is turned into a saturated products.
Elimination reaction:
It is defined as the type of reaction which involves the removal of two substitutents from a molecule either in single step or in two step reaction. It is totally opposite of the addition reaction where saturated products form from unsaturated reactant.
Substitution reaction:
It is defined as the type of chemical reaction in which one functional group removes another functional group. The number of atoms or group of atoms which are attached to carbon atom are same in reactant and products.
Thus, we concluded that the formation of an amide from an amine and an ester is substitution reaction.
