Hydrogen bond is much weaker than the covalent bond but it can stabilize the double helix because of their large numbers and as there is no exchange or sharing of charges seen in ionic or covalent bond.
According to double helical model of DNA, deoxyribo nucleic acid exists as double helix having two polynucletides strands consists of sequence of nucleotides which js interlinked together by phosphodiester bond. The sugar phosphate chain ia the backbone of this ladder like DNA structure.
DNA consists of two chain of nucleotides which are held together in the form of double helix by hydrogen bonds between the bases of these two chain of nucleotides.
Thymine and Adenine form two hydrogen bonds whereas Cytosine and Guanine form three hydrogen bonds.
Thus, we concluded that no sharing or transfer of electron in hydrogen bond, it make DNA stable. Therefore, weak H bonds hold the double helix together yet allow DNA to function.
