The boogie-woogie trio took on a job playing at Cafe Society in Greenwich village, in lower Manhattan.
Boogie-Woogie
Boogie-woogie is a form of blues music that is typically performed on the piano and has ties to jazz genres like ragtime and stride piano. Thanks to the From Spirituals to Swing events in Carnegie Hall that record producer John Hammond sponsored, boogie-woogie received more notice from the general public in 1938 and 1939. Along with Meade Lux Lewis and Albert Ammons, the concerts also included Big Joe Turner and Pete Johnson. Together with Turner, these three pianists settled in New York City's Café Society nightclub, where they made boogie woogie popular among the affluent crowd.
