What is Hematocrit?
- A blood test that measures the volume % of red blood cells in blood, which is also known by various other names.
- The measurement is based on the quantity and size of red blood cells. Typically, it ranges from 40.7 to 50.3% for men and 36 to 44.3% for women.
- A hematocrit that is greater than usual can reveal: Dehydration. a condition that causes your body to overproduce red blood cells, like polycythemia vera. Heart or lung disease
- A lab worker will take blood from a vein, usually from the back of your hand or from the inside of your elbow, if the hematocrit test is a component of a CBC.
