The Knowledge hypothesis reflects that the true meaning of words (vocabulary) cannot be learned alone but with reading comprehension, as they both correlate to the third variable of ideational knowledge.

All this sums up the fact that a reader must have the knowledge of what they are reading before being able to make meaning (comprehension) of the word (vocabulary). The knowledge we give to a jumble of letters or our idea of it is what makes it meaningful.
