Inside a chloroplast, the Thylakoids are pancake-shaped membranes studded with photosynthetic pigments.
What is Thylakoids ?
Chloroplasts and cyanobacteria contain membrane-bound compartments called thylakoids. They serve as the location of the photosynthetic reactions that depend on light. A thylakoid membrane surrounds a thylakoid lumen in thylakoids. Chloroplast thylakoids commonly arrange themselves into stacks of disks called grana.
- The interior membranes of cyanobacteria and chloroplasts, known as thylakoids, serve as a platform for the photochemical reactions that take place during photosynthesis.
- The thylakoid membrane is defined by the presence of closed disks (also known as thylakoids). The thylakoids are stacked tightly in what are known as grana in the majority of higher plants (singular granum).
