The Indian physicist Jagadish Chandra Bose demonstrated publicly the use of radio waves in Calcutta in November 1894.
As a result, Marconi was credited as the inventor of radio, and he and Karl Ferdinand Braun shared the 1909 Nobel Prize in Physics "in recognition of their contributions to the development of wireless telegraphy."
Marconi was also a businessman and entrepreneur who founded The Wireless Telegraph & Signal Company in the United Kingdom in 1897.
