Absolutism can be defined as the reflection and display of real power, which is not restrained by any other institution like the legislature, churches, and social elite composition among others. Monarchs and emperors may promote themselves as being authoritative and powerful, and the individuals may try to control everything and everyone who is a hurdle in the position of absolute power.

The palaces and gardens in Versailles were used by King Louis XIV for pursuing absolutism objectives. Along with the palaces, the king considered the Gardens of Versailles to be important as well for reflecting and displaying power, authority, divine status, and absolute power and reign as well. The royal portraits, statues, and embodiments of sovereignty in the form of paintings reflect how the power of Louis XIV was based on a well-studied performance.

It was important for a heredity monarch like Louis to display to common people that he possesses the virility and power required to lead them, and these constructions provided his legitimacy in this regard as well.  The movements of Louis through these architectures and the countryside along with the aristocrats, servants, and soldiers were also an occasion of ritual demonstrations that were highly stylized and brought to him divine status. The lavish palaces and the sculpted gardens stated that the power of the King extended throughout the natural world easily just as it did over the lives of the common people and subjects.

Absolutism, Political doctrine, and practice of unlimited, centralized authority and absolute sovereignty, especially as vested in a monarch. Its essence is that the ruling power is not subject to regular challenge or check by any judicial, legislative, religious, economic, or electoral agency.
