Biological interactions can be defined as the influence that two organisms living in a community have on one another. The discipline (a sub-strata of biology) that is focused on studying these interactions is called Ecology.

What are the various types of biological interactions?

The various types of interactions are:

  • Mutualism (Symbiosis) - In this case both organisms or species benefit from their coexistence.
  • Commensalism - In this case, there only one organism benefits, the other remains neutral and unaffected positively or negatively.
  • Competition - In this case both organisms are negatively affected when they interact
  • Parasitism, Predation and Herbivory - In this case, only one specie benefits. The other is disadvantaged.
