Elon Musk is in charge of expanding Tesla and opening new factories, markets, etc.
Zachary Kirkhorn's responsibility is to maintain Tesla's finances so that it may operate. He doesn't need to do anything to "keep off competing brands," in my opinion. Zachary is not the one who should be concerned about this; it should be Elon.
What some people still don't seem to get is that EVs are not a niche market with a narrow market potential. They do compete with one another, but their primary rivals are internal combustion engine cars, a Tesla's market that is (at least from the current perspective of 2021) virtually endless.
