A Journey- Kolkata to Shimla
It was winter by the time of the year. On the occasion of my father turning 50 that year, everyone in our family decided to go on a trip to Shimla. The exciting and fun part was that we all decided to reach Shimla by car. A day before our journey, the driver had taken our 10 seater Toyota Fortuner for service. In the morning of 24th of December, we initiated our journey at 5 am in the morning. The total distance to be covered to reach our destination showed somewhat 1903 km on maps and the duration showed approximately 4-5 days. We had everything planned beforehand, so that we could enjoy the journey. As soon as I got up in the car, I plugged my headphones into my phone and played my most favorite playlists on loop. It all felt so soothing and ethereal. Before this road trip all I had experienced was journey by either train or flight. So this journey seemed somewhat special for me. Everyone was so happy, gossiping, singing songs, eating snacks and enjoying the view that passed by as we headed forward towards our destination. After travelling for around 200 km, we halted in a road side dhaba, had our lunch and again started the journey. Though the first day seemed so exciting but the next two days were very tiring as we had to find hotels to stay at night between our journeys. In between all of these, my phone's battery almost died and there was showing "no network" in some areas. Finally, on the fourth day we reached Shimla at night fully exhausted, tired and experiencing massive back and shoulder pains. Overall, the journey from Kolkata to Shimla was all so new for me and I enjoyed every bit of it except for my phone's battery dying in between the road trip. I would forever cherish the memories of this journey while being eager to make more such road trips. The only difference between the first road trip vs the other ones would be that I would never ever forget to take my phone charger with me while travelling.
