A problem that did not lead to the Constitutional Convention was that the U.S. government was oppressing its citizens.
The Constitutional Convention was called to draw up a new constitution to replace the ineffective Articles of Confederation that made the Federal government so weak that: 1. It could not raise money of its own. 2. It could not do anything as states violated on individual freedoms and rights.
The Constitutional Convention was not called to address any mistreatment by the federal government; from the above, we can conclude that the federal government could not mistreat its citizens as it did not have the power to do so. A major issue at the convention was whether the federal administration or the states would have more authority. Many delegates believed that the federal government should be able to override state laws, but others feared that a strong federal government would oppress their citizens.
