The necessity of repentance in order to gain a forgiveness of sins via Jesus Christ's Atonement is the main teaching of the prophets and the apostles throughout history.
Our own contrition is evidence of Him and of the ability of His mercy to forgive and purify us.
A gospel dispensation is a time when the Lord has had at least one appointed servant on earth who carries the holy priestly and the keys and who has been given a divine mandate to preach the word to the people of the earth.
