         Elections refer to the process by which representatives are chosen using voting by ballot paper. The person getting the majority of votes wins the election and gains the specified political position.

         To elect the president and vice president from among themselves, the opposition parties chose their representatives, and then an election was held. The person getting the highest votes became the president. Separate elections were held for presidentship and vice presidentship.

         The first election was held in the year 1800 when the Federalist John Adams stood in opposition to the Republican Thomas Jefferson. Thomas Jefferson won the election in 1800.
