Within our solar system early on, Earth was nearly undefinable compared to now. Our earth used to be made out of magma, and it was extremely hot. The time was not right for life to form. The atmosphere was formed by this magma we talked about spewing from mini-volcanoes that consisted around our early version of the Earth. Then, over time, the Earth evolved, and became what we know today as our home planet.
