In May 1754, a small force of V1rginia militiamen lead by 22 year old Major George Washington, along with Mingo warriors under the command of the Seneca half-king Tanaghrisson, initiated a surprise attack against French troops in western Pennsylvania and built Fort Necessity just southeast of Fort Duquesne.
