False. Attending college does not make a student more liberal and he or she is not likely to abandon their religious faith
Most colleges and universities in the US have operated as secular institutions for more than a century
However, how religious are American faculty members at colleges and universities in their personal lives? By analyzing the data from a recent, nationally representative poll of American professionals, we are able to provide an answer to this issue. Contrary to popular belief, religious skepticism does not predominate in academia.
In fact, even at prestigious research institutes, the majority of professors are devout Christians. We then examine the distribution of faculty religiosity across institutions, fields, and other variables. We then identify a number of issues that future research should address while keeping in mind that religious faith and academic life, at least in the American context, are not inherently incompatible.
