Family adversity, abuse, and parental psychopathology are predictors of sui cide during adolescence.

The act of deliberately bringing about one's own death is known as sui cide. Risk factors include drug addiction, physical and mental illness, abuse and mental disorders. Some sui cides are spontaneous acts brought on by stress, relationship issues, or bullying and harassment. Those who have attempted sui cide in the past are more likely to do so again. Limiting access to sui cide tools like guns, pills, and poisons, treating mental illnesses and substance addiction, monitoring media coverage of sui cide, and improving financial climate are all effective sui cide prevention strategies. Although crisis helplines are frequently used resources, little is known about how beneficial they are.
