Wound pain for patients is managed with VAC Devices. For acute pain from dressing changes, pain medication that is administered 30 to 60 minutes before the process can reduce pain and also relieve anxiety associated with the process.

For pain relief, physicians prescribe neuropathic agents, NSAIDS, and acetaminophen or use tramadol, anxiolytics, topical agents or codeine. Negative pressure wound therapy refers to the wound dressing system that continuously apply sub atmospheric pressure to the system, which then provides a positive pressure to the surface of a wound.

Negative pressure wound therapy has proven to be an effective treatment  for a variety of complex wounds. Pain is anecdotally a common side effect of NPWT , due to which some patients have to continue with the treatment.

It is true that pain affects wound care practice. Unresolved pain can negatively impact both wound healing and a patient's quality of life.
