General Sherman's March to the Sea was a major offensive that took place in 1864 during the US Civil War. General Sherman, that leaded the Union Army, aimed to destroy the Confederate forces by entering deep in their territory and by bombing the supply lines, the military targets, industries, infrastructures and civilian properties, in order to disrupt their transport systems are their economy.
The campaign started when the Union Army left the captured city of Atlanta in November and finished when the Union captured the Port of Savannah in December and with the surrender of the Confederates.
