Calvin Wimbish, a 72-year-old Republican who was a conservative activist and veteran Army Green Beret, lost to Frost. Democratic Rep. Val Demings abandoned the House seat while trying in vain to unseat Republican Sen. Marco Rubio.
Frost has served as a key organizer for both the American Civil Liberties Union and March for Our Lives, the anti-gun violence organization founded in reaction to the Parkland school shooting in 2018. He focused his campaign on issues that were crucial to young voters, such as combating climate change, protecting the right to an abortion, and supporting Medicare for all.
He resigned from his former position in order to run for Congress, and while on the campaign trail, he drove for Uber to pay the rent. Through his childhood and early adulthood, he concentrated on community organizing rather than finishing college.
After winning the election to represent Florida's 10th Congressional District, progressive activist Maxwell Alejandro Frost, 25, will formally become the first member of Generation Z to serve in Congress.
