One of the recreations or pastimes of the 1830s-1850s period was baseball. In the 1850s, baseball was a new path for industrializing society.
Sports recreation such as cycling, rowing and horse racing are also popular, and sailing events such as Henley Regatta and famous horse races such as the Epsom Derby are often attended by large crowds. One of the biggest events in the Victorian calendar was the famous Great Exhibition, held in the halls and regular performances by theater troupes, ventriloquists, hypnotists, poets, comedians, choirs and orchestras. They came to town and organized circuses in parks and open spaces. There are celebrations, carnivals, art exhibitions and lessons in singing, dancing and cooking.
