It wholly depended on the Mandate. Iraq: Iraq was granted de jure independence in 1923 and power was officially transfered to the Iraqi Monarchy. British troops, however, maintained a short leash for the newly independent country,maintaining troops there as late at 1958 when they were outsted by the military.
