African Americans, Native Americans, and American Loyalists were all enlisted by the British to fight for them. Lack of resources, recruits, and experience were obstacles American military leaders had to overcome in order to defeat the British force.
The American colonies did not have a lot of gold or silver. As the conflict dragged on, paper money, or currency, lost more and more of its value. As a result, the Quartermaster found it difficult to buy food from local farmers or military supplies from Europe. Because of the war, the colonies could no longer access equipment that typically came from Britain. Even when supplies did come in, there was a poor system in place for getting them to the troops.
