The superficial temporal artery can be palpated is just anterior to the tragus.
The smaller of the two terminal branches of the external carotid is called the superficial temporal artery. It starts in the parotid gland material behind the mandibular ramus and travels upward over the back of the zygoma. It can consistently be felt here, just in front of the tragus.
The superficial temporal artery is located together with the frontal branch of the facial nerve, passes within the temporoparietal fascia.
Thus the best diagnosis can be performed at anterior to the tragus for palpation of superficial temporal artery.
