The Spotted Cat, arguably the most well-known jazz club in New Orleans, is a compact yet energetic space devoted to jazz in all its manifestations.

Where was jazz most popular in the 1920s ?

The "Jazz Age" is the time frame from the conclusion of World War One through the onset of the Great Depression in 1929. Jazz has gained popularity in America despite older generations' perceptions that it was immoral and threatened cultural norms.

During that time, dances like the Charleston and the Black Bottom were extremely popular, and jazz ensembles were often made up of seven to twelve players. Paul Whiteman, Duke Ellington, and Fletcher Henderson oversaw significant orchestras in New York. The New Orleans Rhythm Kings, King Oliver's Creole Jazz Band, and Jelly Roll Morton were just a few of the New Orleans jazz musicians that relocated to Chicago in the late 1910s in search of work.
