"An account of an experience with discrimination" reveal about Sojourner Truth that she was capable of defending herself.

African American preacher, abolitionist, women's rights advocate, and novelist Sojourner Truth was born into slavery and managed to escape in 1826. Truth proclaimed abolitionism and equal rights for everyone after achieving freedom.

Sojourner is famous for a speech with the catchphrase "Ain't I a Woman?" that she is claimed to have given at a conference for women in Ohio in 1851. However, historical records of her speech (and whether Truth actually used that refrain) have been called into question in the past. Truth persisted in her campaign throughout her adult life, winning a meeting with President Abraham Lincoln and rising to prominence as one of the most well-known human rights activists in the world.
