What is electric charge?
- The basic property of matter carried by some elementary particles that governs how the particles are affected by an electric or magnetic field is known as electric charge. Electric charge occurs in discrete natural units and is neither created nor destroyed.
- When an object is rubbed, it receives a charge. Because of the rubbing, the objects gain or lose electrons. It becomes positively charged when it loses electrons. The object becomes negatively charged when it attains an electrons.
- When electrons are transferred to or removed from an object, an electrical charge is produced. Because electrons have a negative charge, adding them to an object causes it to become negatively charged as well. An object becomes positively charged when electrons are removed from it.
