A major group called a "peer group" is made up of people who are around the same age and share comparable social traits.
People in a peer group are those who are similar to one another in terms of age, social standing, and shared interests. Peer group socialisation starts in the early years when kids on a playground teach younger kids the customs of sharing, following rules, or shooting a basketball.
Kids in schools are referred to as peers. Though easier to speak than their contemporary equivalents, they both convey the same thing. If people, whether young, old, or in between are the same age and living in the same era, they're contemporaries.
