Aquifers that are located above the local water table are known as perched water tables (or perched aquifers). This happens when the primary water table or aquifer is covered by an impermeable layer of rock or silt (an aquiclude) or a somewhat impermeable layer (an aquitard) that is below the land surface.
The perched aquifer is found where upper coralline limestone outcrops on the ground. Rainwater easily percolates through the upper coralline limestone's joints and fissures, as well as the greensand layer underneath it, and rests on the blue clay layer.
