Describe the practice of indulgences and explain how the church used the practice to raise funds

Respuesta :

In the Catholic church they believed that if you weren't good enough to go to heaven you would go to a holding place called Purgatory In order to get someone out of this place you would have to buy indulgences. This was a ploy by the Catholic Church to scare members to buy these so that they could raise money.

Indulgence refers to a distinctive feature of the repentant system of both the Western medieval and the Catholics’ Church. The system granted full or partial exemption from the punishment of sin.

Raising of funds by church

  • The catholic church made people believe that if they have committed sins , they are not good enough for a place in heaven.

  • For such people there is a  holding place called purgatory.

  • For breaking out from purgatory, people have to buy indulgences.

  • Church used these indulgences as a source of raising fund.

Therefore we can say that this practice was used by catholic church for the purpose of raising funds by offering people a place in heaven.
