Under Chinese law, each couple can only have one child. To have more than that, parents need special government authorization that is only usually given in rare cases, all done when the children are male. As a result, abortion rates are high, especially when pregnancies are of female babies. The main argument is that man yields more productivity in the labor market and that, with fewer women, he procreates less, so the population grows less.
